There are a number of ways you can get involved in our celebrations and #DoSomethingGrandNZ for our Grandies.

Schools & Early Childhood Education Centres

Are you an educator in a New Zealand school or Learning Centre? We’d love you to get involved and invite your student’s Grandparents into your school or centre to get involved in your day-to-day activities. Kids love mufti days! Organise a mufti day – dress as your Granny/Grandpa day at your school and collect a gold coin in return.

We also have a number of resources available to help with class activities around the theme of New Zealand Grandparent’s Day. Go to our resources page to access this information.

Communities

Libraries, Community Centres, Playgroups, Girls Guides, Brownies, Scouts and many other Community groups can get involved too. Perhaps you can set up a display at your venue, and invite children and their Grandparents to participate in activities throughout the week. Don’t have any grandchildren or Grandparents? Why not partner with a local ECE or Retirement Home and organise something together?

We have a number of ideas for activities. Please see our resources page.

Organisations & Workplaces

We want all of New Zealand to get involved in New Zealand Grandparent’s Day. Perhaps you could organise your team, or entire organisation, to get involved in a “Dress as your Granny/Grandpa” day in your workplace. Grab a gold coin donation from everyone who gets involved and offer a prize for the best dressed! An ingenious way to collect some money to help us raise $10 grand for our Grandies!

You may have many other ideas – we’d love to hear them so we can share with others. Email us.

Rest/Retirement Homes

If you are a Manager or an activities co-ordinator within a retirement village, ask your residents to invite their grandchildren in for an afternoon tea or get in touch with your local kindy and see if they would like to organise a visit to your centre. Perhaps some of your residents could take a trip out to their local kindy for an hour. Any way in which we can get our seniors to integrate with our younger generation.

Your family

We understand you may want to do something a little more low-key with just family.

‘Get your craft on’ and help your kids to make their Grandparents a special card, perhaps go out for a morning or afternoon tea, cook lunch or dinner together at home and invite their Grandparents over, head to the beach, or park together. There are so many ways you can celebrate!

Donate

We want to raise $10,000 for our Grandies.

There are a number of way in which you can raise money to donate to our cause. All money raised will go to GrandFriends (Surrogate Grandparents New Zealand Charitable Trust (CC54933)) who connect families with surrogate grandparents to forge long-lasting friendships and family bonds. #DoSomethingGrandNZ for New Zealand Grandparent’s Day is just one of our initiatives.
